Hasselbeck or not to Hasselbeck?

What's the question?

I really do not understand the rationale behind the people that want to get rid of Matt Hasselbeck. Let's look at this. He is the most successful, productive QB in Seahawk history. He is the only QB to EVER lead us to a Superbowl. He has thrown for almost 30,000 yards. He has thrown 176 TD passes. He has started 138 games as a Seahawk. He has a career completion percentage of 60% and a career QB rating of 82.2. Granted, he is getting older and is nearing the end of his career, but I see that as more of a reason to give him the respect he deserves (and has earned) and allow him to retire as a Seahawk.

Take a look back at what this franchise was before Hasselbeck. We were the joke of the AFC West. Matt came in and made us a viable threat almost every year. I know, I know... he has had a rough couple of years, but just look at what he was able to do in the playoffs. He threw for 530 yds with 7 touchdowns and only 1 interception while completing 59.3% of his passes (even though his receivers kept dropping passes that hit them in their hands). He is an experienced, proven leader on and off the field.

Another thing we need to look at is; who would take over if he were gone? Charlie Whitehurst? Really? This guy is a joke. Pete Carroll made a lot of great decisions this year, but Charlie was not one of them. He is a back-up and will always be a back-up. He does not have the skill set to be a permanent starter in the NFL.

In closing, I believe that the best plan of action would be to re-sign Matt for another 2 or 3 years and then draft a talented young QB like Jake Locker or wait until next year and see if we can land Andrew Luck or trade for a good young QB like Matt Flynn. I know everyone will have their own opinion on who we should try to get, and I would love to hear them! These are my opinions only, but I always do my homework and do my best to back up any statement I make with stats and facts. There, I've said my part. Let the arguments fly!
